چکیده

Large-area subwavelength dielectric hexagonal lattices of cylindrical pillars on quartz substrates that provide high optical transmittance at all angles of incidence under different polarizations of light, and are fabricated using lowcost patterning techniques, are demonstrated and analyzed. Transmittance >85% for angles of incidence in excess of 70° is demonstrated at visible and near-infrared wavelengths, and the structures employed are shown to be superior at visible wavelengths to tapered “moth eye” surfaces for practically achievable dimensions. Detailed analytical calculations and numerical simulations elucidating the impact of feature size, height, periodicity, and refractive index are presented. © 2013 Optical Society of America OCIS codes: (170.0110) Imaging systems; (170.3010) Image reconstruction techniques; (170.3660) Light propagation in tissues. http://dx.doi.org/10.1364/JOSAB.30.002584

Design of multilayer antireflection coatings made from co-sputtered and low-refractive-index materials by genetic algorithm.

Designs of multilayer antireflection coatings made from co-sputtered and low-refractive-index materials are optimized using a genetic algorithm. Co-sputtered and low-refractive-index materials allow the fine-tuning of refractive index, which is required to achieve optimum anti-reflection characteristics. The algorithm minimizes reflection over a wide range of wavelengths and incident angles, an...

Design of hybrid coatings composed of homogeneous layers and refractive index gradients

Inhomogeneous coatings are promising for superior optical properties, e.g. broadband antireflection, in comparison to conventional HL-stack designs. Although a lot of excellent theoretical work on optical behaviour of rugates and gradient index films has been done during the last decades, there is no real breakthrough in industrial fabrication. The realization of such coatings leads to an exten...

Colloidal subwavelength nanostructures for antireflection optical coatings.

A two-dimensional (2D) subwavelength nanostructure for antireflection coating is fabricated upon a transparent substrate. Self-assembled 2D colloidal crystals are used as a nanoscale composite material with controlled thickness and low refractive index. The feature size of the structure is approximately 105 nm. The structure is used for antireflection coating, and the measured reflectivity of a...

Broadband omnidirectional antireflection coating based on subwavelength surface Mie resonators

Reflection is a natural phenomenon that occurs when light passes the interface between materials with different refractive index. In many applications, such as solar cells or photodetectors, reflection is an unwanted loss process. Many ways to reduce reflection from a substrate have been investigated so far, including dielectric interference coatings, surface texturing, adiabatic index matching...

Self-assembled nanostructures for antireflection optical coatings

We report the first results of self-assembled nanostructures using colloids for antireflection optical coatings. Two-dimensional (2D) periodic nano-structures were made by using self-assembled 2D colloidal crystals on top of a transparent substrate. An atomic force microscope was used to evaluate the quality of the nanostructure. The feature size of the structures was around 105 nm. This sub-wa...
